I think this might be the new normal. Changes to LTIR, playoff salary cap, no double retention, and a rising cap all add up to nothing happening.
There are a lot of pretenders this year and no real game changers that would make one of them take a big risk.
 
Islanders fired Roy with 4 games left in the season, as they’ve playing absolutely horridly and have seen their chances of making the playoffs plummet. Presumably the GM wanted to do this for a long time but Schaefer and Sorokin had them in unexpected postseason contention and it probably wouldn’t have gone over well with the team or fans.
Feels very NY Islanderish to me.
