US - South Everything TEXAS thread

Yeah that's the gold standard. Honestly I miss real kolaches. There's like three places up here and they're not very good.

Do they freeze well?

There's a Kolache Shoppe (original in the heights) that opened up just outside my neighborhood in PL that is, IMO, really, really fucking legit. I can alway ship.

They use Killen's in the brisket and cheddar and Slovek's in the venison.

I also drive close to the Original Kolache Shoppe on Telephone on my way to work every day. For them more flaky pastry pastrami joints.

I can't imagine they freeze well... But I'm absolutely willing to try!

Gerik's up in West, TX has the best kolaches of all time despite it being in a weird pizza shop.

Hey BeerandNoise if you're in Austin tomorrow you should stop by Lager Jam 11. It's going to be a fun time. All the best lager-ists in the state will be there from all over. Other than the Texas Craft Brewers Fest it's one of the best beer events we have in town.

Spokesman Coffee South is in the same plaza as St. Elmo Brewing as well (and across the street from Vacancy Brewing).

No need to buy a ticket, you just show up.

As an extra incentive…

… I’m pretty sure Sameer is coming and he’s like 20x cooler than me. BigFrank can attest.

Getting there close to noon. Definitely before 1pm.

We also have our bottle share at the Draught House on Sunday at 3pm that’s been going on close to 15 years now. Used to be the official “Beer Advocate” bottle share till a decade ago or so till we all got banned. Don’t bring beer? We also accept food.

My friend John Rubio runs it who does The Beerists podcast. I never know if that’s an attraction point for people though because he’s mainly just a piece of shit to me.

the frozen ones?

I had a fasted blood test yesterday and after leaving I thought about your post here and went to HEB trying to find some fresh kolaches and didn't see anything.
No. The frozen ones suck.

They make fresh ones every morning and put them in where the rotisserie chickens would be. They have an entire sausage link in them. My HEB usually runs out around 8:30-9.

Look at the sick fucking roller coaster that just opened at Circuit of the America in Austin for race weekend. Looks awesome!

I've been watching them put this thing up for a while since COTA is semi-near my house and I drive by at least a few times a month. They are turning one side of the land there into a racing themed amusement park called COTALAND with coasters and a convention center hotel.

Now there is a bumper sticker I can get behind.

I wonder if people in other states have to deal with this crap.
sucks the worst GIF

I used to tell management and they would try to do something, but now they’ve just given up.

I once saw a golden retriever do a walking poop in the produce section, the owner look at it, shrug, then keep walking.

I've seen a puddle of piss in an aisle more times than I wish too.

Headed to Arlington in late July to watch the Mariners play the Rangers. Anything worthwhile or even sorta decent nearby? Likely just gonna stay around the stadium and use ride shares and walk.

I know literally zilch about Arlington except it’s in the middle of the metroplex. If you head into Fort Worth… Maple Branch Brewing is awesome. If you head into Dallas check out Vector Brewing or Manhattan Project Brewing.

Vector has awesome pizza.

Gold-ee’s and Ribb-ee’s for BBQ in Fort Worth. Pecan Lodge or Terry Black’s in Dallas.

We’re not getting a rental car and baseball is the focus so really whatever is nearby for an Uber or walking outside in the heat death of the Earth. I’m not expecting much around the stadiums but ya never know.
