last of the 2014, starting to oxidize. back in 2014 tho this guy was amazing! traded for several bottles of it. man i gotto stop saving the beer i love

I feel like the current day stout drinker veers from Apple Brandy, but I think this is pretty rad.
Love a well done AB stout:)
An apple brandy barrel aged stout was one of the first beers that made me a believer in what barrel aging could do to beer and set me off on a quest to try any/all apple brandy barrel aged beers I could.

To this day, apple brandy hunahpu remains one of the single most memorable beers I ever had the pleasure of drinking along with AB mexican cake and AB Black Magick. I realize 2 of those 3 dont belong in this discussion but holy hell so much apple character in them.

I remember being so friggen excited when Fifty Fifty finally put eclipse in AB barrels and that beer ended up being a turd because I think that was the same year they changed up the base beer recipe in an attempt to make the beer thicker and all they did was jack the alcohol up higher and make it more bitter which was a distraction from what the barrel aging incorporated.

I’ll shut up now and get back on topic as im currently drinking this beauty:

I've always thought the AB fanboy thirst was ridiculous, but I had a bottle of AB Huna with some friends at a small private share at Toronado Seattle a few years ago and it was absolutely unbelievable. I kinda refuse to try other AB beers because I'm sure they can't compare.

Sometimes apple brandy barrel aged stouts don't work out, but Apple Brandy Black Magick is one the best stouts I've ever had. Apple Brandy Noir from Prairie was also very good for a more accessible option.

Over the last few days, I’ve had 2011-2014 BCBS.

2011 is shot as far as I’m concerned. Not an enjoyable experience.

2012 was approaching the hill but hadn’t quite created. IIRC, this was probably my favorite vintage.

2013 had that best “classic” BCBS taste without any residual heat.

2014 was drinking fantastic but just didn’t feel as “rich” as the 2013.

I still have one bottle left of each, which I’ll probably hold onto to do with a fresh bottle next year and one of my left over 2019s.

I have had it great and terrible. When it works it works and when it doesn’t... 🤢

Another non-adjunct apple brandy stout that I thought was phenomenal was Westbrook apple brandy aged Siberian Black Magic Panther.
