Native American artifacts

The area I live in is rich in Indian heritage. I have always had a desire to find arrowheads, spear points or other tools left behind by them.

But when looking for them, I have always just half-assed it as I dont know what the heck im doing. I heard to look in freshly turned farm fields after it rains or close to water.

I watched some youtube videos and it occurred to me that I need to just get out there and look... but instead of looking for specific shapes, just look for things that dont match the rest of the rocks and stick out as different.

Today I went out for an hour with my kids and we found our first artifact. Its not an iconic beautiful arrowhead or spear point but instead a cutting blade/scraper of sorts.

The edge has clearly been worked and the way it just fits/feels in the hand is unreal.

Here it is side by side with some points someone else found and gave me.

Once we found this piece, we slowed down and looked to see if we could find anything else in the immediate area. We started finding pieces of stuff that sorta looked like broken pottery and then this caught my eye. I think its a small broken paint bowl as the coloring in it comes off when I wipe it.

I found this arrowhead 40+ years ago in my yard
Love it!

Not sure if its just the picture or the way it was created but in doing more reading, it sounds like some points were used and when/if damaged got repurposed into something else or resharpened into a new point.

Yours looks like a hybrid that coulda gone either way while it was being made. That lower left side looks like it could have been used as a knife/hand scraper but the bottom of it is distinctly shaped like it woulda been affixed to something.

So cool, thanks for sharing!
