Artificial Intelligence

Not AI yet but the ones that break down your doors in a couple years will be.

New model for OpenAI paying customers. o1 is better at reasoning task than 4o but is not as good at writing. This is because o1 was not trained on the entirety of the internet and only went through 240 hours of training.

You only have access to the preview version ATM but it is an improvement over 4o when using it for coding websites. One of my buddies spit out a fully functioning 2048 game in about a minute. The preview version scores in the 62nd percentile in competition code, while the full version is in the 89th.

"Implement the game “2048” with HTML + JS + CSS. The entire code should be written in a single HTML block with embedded JS and CSS. Don’t use any remote assets. After opening the html, user will need to hit space to start / restart the game. The player may control the tile placements with the arrow keys or “wasd”."

Okay this blew my fuckin shorts off. I fed it my unpublished novel that maybe 10-15 people on Earth have read and in a few minutes I'm listening to a 2-person AI-hosted podcast about the book. Genuine human inflection in the voices. Not entirely insane analysis of themes and key moments/characters.

Fuck me running if I had this in school there would be no excuse not to get As in everything.

I am in an exclusive club!

A friend of mine had written a screenplay, for whatever reason, a year or so ago. He was bugging me non-stop to read it. I believe it was your suggestion to throw it in an AI site and have it summarize it for me. Worked like a charm! I then uploaded it here and sent him a link saying that a "famous" podcast had recently done a review of it. He seriously thinks his script is going to start filming next week thanks to all the "buzz". That is a pretty incredible tool.

"Google CEO Sundar Pichai just revealed that AI now generates more than a quarter of new code for its products, according to a company earnings call transcribed by Ars Technica. In other words, AI tools are already having an absolutely mammoth impact on the development of software."

Only saving grace is this is probably AlphaCode or some other internal model that no one but google has access to. So in 12-24 months we'll start to get open source or publicly available products that can do the same.

Our IT team is already dropping an AI Help Desk chat that is trained on our knowledge base. They say it will not affect jobs, only make current employees more efficient. Yeah, okay. All departments have been asked to cut budgets and a level 1 Helpdesk person cost us between 65k - 80k once you factor in benefits. If this model proves itself, we'll really see if that is true.

Hey Jerm is it SOP to run affidavits and other documents through an AI checker now as a lawyer?

Sounds like an easy win in a small percentage of cases.

I'm not a litigator so I can't answer, but can say that lawyers are constantly finding new applications for AI (but you have to be very careful; AI is not always accurate, and prompts to AI are not confidential).
