Phish Thread

I guess Trey Anastasio Band is playing Chicago Theater Halloween Weekend. I work around the corner from here and have unpopular opinions about the Chicago theater (I have had more bad times than good there) but if you want to know where is good to eat, sleep, want to call dibs on our guest room in the suburbs, whatever... I can even tell you the new places to buy pipes, bongs and coffee with THC in it, because they are right across the street from my office. New head shop just opened just in time for Lollapalooza last weekend. The loop has gotten REAL different.

I have no food or drink suggestions for that area but if you want the best parking situation, don’t park in the lots at MPP. Across from the park on Little Patuxnet are these corporate parks with tons of parking. You can typically park there for free and it’s way easier to get out after the show. Plus, you can skip past the lines going in if you just go around the line that starts in the right lane from the highway. Just stick to the left and you save so much time.
Have fun. MPP is the best.
We ended up Ubering each day. Hit Union Jack's pub afterwards to wait out the shitshow traffic situation. Our return Uber drivers were happy for that. Thanks for th erecommendation though!

Cheers!

looks like you got some fun shows! Standout shows at MPP are pretty much a given at this point. These are the first ones I missed since 14. Hopefully back at it next year.
Super fun shows. Just really solid. The energy at that venue from the people was what really made it. They had good jams, they looked like they were having fun and it was reflected in the vibe from the crowd. To say that I am excited for Denver and Dick's is definitely an understatement!

Everyone seems to love Eagle Park, not my favorite but ymmv.

Third Space Brewing is a great place. Just across the street to Sobelman’s for one of the best burgers in the city.

You are walking distance from Lakefront Brewery. Take the tour.

You’re also very close to Central Waters new Milwaukee taproom. It’s a must stop

Definitely going to hit all of these. Thanks for the recs. Third Space is right by our shuttle for Friday/Sunday so will that can be a late lunch before heading out to Alpine. And everyone wants to hit Central Waters. Willing to take whatever other recommendations. Doing a Miller Park tour as well

Figured I’d get in a late review of AC before the Alpiners take over.
Did Saturday and Sunday. Both were excellent shows and the best of the 5 I did this summer. I’d give the nod to Sunday with A Wave of Hope being the best jam of my tour. Need to relisten to both.
Seeing the band on the beach was very cool, despite the toll that sand took on my legs. Both nights we got there on the early side and were able to get good spots. Plenty of space and we met cool people both nights. Sunday, we hung out with biologists that came with a boatload of psychedelics. I did not partake but my friend did. Felt like old times.

Also, this giant JB Smoove billboard to the left of the stage kept cracking me up and might be the 2nd most talked about in-venue advertisement since the spicy chicken sandwiches of section 119 fame.

gregkoko did you make it? I hung in the lot a bit with coach and his friends on Sun, a nice treat.

Skipped Sat, my view from night 1:

I am currently back on my couch in NJ. Absolutely fucking exhausted. Our crew was split down the middle on preferring N1 or N2. Loved everything from Everything's Right onward last night. Got back to our Airbnb around 12:45 last night and the people in the upstairs unit were having a rager. Nobody slept and then had to get to the airport for a 6:20 flight. Wiped

To clarify we did not attend said rager. We all wanted to sleep and they wouldn't shut the fuck up

Sitting at the airport bar at CLE, and finally have a second to post about Alpine. Haven't relistened, but I'd initially rank the shows 1, 2, 3 Fri-Sun. All very fun, very well-played shows though.

Friday first impression highlights were Destiny (which I never expected to see), Moma, Ghost, Bowie (which had a great full-moon-from-behind-the-clouds reveal during the jam), and of course, Lizards.

The 1999 into a type 2 Fluffhead really stole the show right away on Saturday.

I was certain there'd be a Divided Sky at some point, and it showed up at sunset on Sunday. Great, clean version with a little jamming IIRC. People shit on Sugar Shack because Trey always botches it, but this one was very clean & well played. The rest of the show was just really fun, including the debut of Jerry Reed's Broken Heart Attack (sung by Fish) seamlessly segueing out of Martian Monster. First Tube closer was the exclamation point for the weekend.

Had a bunch of fun hitting some Milwaukee breweries & restaurants over the weekend, then seeing my Assistant Coach capnmike pre-show on Sunday. Weather was great too.

I hope this happens once again.

That Saturday opening was unreal to listen to just from the recording. I can only imagine what it was like in person. The sound of the crowd erupting when it kicked into 1999 is pretty awesome for just audio, and that Fluff was hella crispy.
