The Comic Book Shop

I know this thread was pretty slow moving on the other site, but I did enjoy it for what it was. I was always excited to hear what you guys were reading and the comic books that got adapted into shows.

Was just passed some Ryan Browne stuff from mborden

"Garbage Edition" of 3D Cowboy's 2D Spectacular!
"Grenade Horse Apocalypse"

excited to dig into these as i'm a huge fan of Rbrowne artwork.

Also been reading Sex Criminals, which is a little weird/slow but it exciting enough to keep me going on to the next issue.

There isn't a comics thread? Did I miss it?
Not sure if most appropriate in hobbies or media, but...

Not sure either... But if reading is under media, wouldn't comics be as well?

I'll be following this thread. It's been 5 years since I last regularly read and collected comics after amassing a several-thousand book library.

But coincidentally, I had made the decision this week to start hitting up my local comic shop every Wednesday once again to get back into it.

It'll be tough to figure out where I left off and where I should pick up, but I'm excited to dive back in.

My most recent read was Man-Eaters Vol. 1. I picked it up at my first visit to my new (since I moved) local comic shop.

Website blurb: "A mutation in Toxoplasmosis causes menstruating women to turn into ferocious killer wildcats-easily provoked and extremely dangerous. As panic spreads and paranoia takes root, the fate of the world rides on the shoulders of one twelve-year-old girl. Part Cat People, part The Handmaid's Tale, MAN-EATERS will have everyone talking. "

Over the past couple years I've tried to increase the amount of time I spend consuming art/content created by people that are not cis white dudes. The satire presented in this comic is a prime example of something I really enjoyed that I probably wouldn't have stumbled upon had I not specifically sought it out. Good stuff.

anybody read jupiters legacy?

I did! It’s one of my favorite overall series and could be my favorite Millar story. He truly has the most creative thoughts when it comes to comic stories. Seems like all of his “What if” thoughts are homerun books every time. Might start picking up all his stuff again now that The Walking Dead is officially....well....dead. Lol.

I’m super pumped to see Jupiter’s Legacy on any screen. Millar’s stuff usually transitions smoothly to TV or film.

this is so tempting.

edit: nevermind it's not the complete complete set
They had to have planned this boxset before they decided to end the series. Otherwise that's like buying a DVD boxset of 2 films you know is going to be a trilogy.

It's also awkward to have a boxset that says 2003 - 2018 on your shelf when the thing ended in 2019, lol.

Image Comics: "We can release this, make a bunch of money, and then we'll make a bunch more when we release a similar box set for the second half of the series!"
Kirkman: "Yeahhh... about that...."

Anyone have any experience selling comics? I have about 220 that I have just been lugging around with me for like 25 years. Most are not worth anything, but I do have about 50 Silver Age Superboy and World's Finest (12c) along with Spider-Man #42 (MJ first appearance) and Incredible Hulk #181 (Wolverine first appearance) that might be worth something. They are all raw, and nothing NM or anything, but none that are really beat up either. Worth getting the more collectible ones graded and trying to off the others as a lot?
Any advise would help, thanks!

IMO your best bet is to find a shop that will take them all as a bunch. You could include the good ones in the deal or piecemeal them out, but you will have a harder time unloading the unwanted stuff.

I'll take that hulk issue off your hands if you have a decent price in mind. PM a homie.

If you don't work out a deal with someone here I'd suggest getting that Hulk graded, even if average condition you're looking at some decent money. The Spider Man is also probably worth trying to sell individually, though I don't know I'd bother grading it unless you think it has a shot at NM.

If you have a price in mind for the World's Finest and maybe Superboy, I might be interested.
