Talkin' 'bout Beerz

Pretty unfortunate, I guess. The owner of that brewery is the fella responsible for getting me into craft beer, and is indirectly responsible for my current job of 13 years. I haven't spoken to him in a couple years, but we poured 3 Little Birds Berliner at my wedding (as his wedding gift) when AC was still fucking around on CCB's pilot system. Good dude, but I don't know how these financials really make any sense.

... they don't at all when you consider the cost doesn't include the building. All your revenue is going to be eaten up in rent (~$300k/year!), cost of goods and labor for 13 FTEs before you even pay yourself.

They've got a million dollars in FF&E? I'm not intimately familiar with brewing setups but that sounds like they overbuilt to me.

This will likely end up being an auction if I had to guess.

Well this is something. Always enjoyed their beers and food and seemed like they were always busy. Wonder what they fucked up.

Well somewhat surprisingly, this has turned another corner. My dad just received this email today. I'm sure he'll end up going on Saturday.

In December I was walking past the downtown Philly location and they still had everything out as if they were ready to set tables to start the day. I'm curious how many of the locations they will end up reopening,

When you think of “famous cake from Chicago” do you think of Atomic cake (invented here and not really found anywhere else because it is ALOT)? How about Portillos Chocolate Cake (a bog standard mayo cake but that cake shake is pretty good)? Or that Loaf Lounge chocolate cake that was featured in a single episode of season 2 of The Bear (I would have forgotten about it if ads like this one didn’t keep reminding me about it).

The other day I started seeing ads on Facebook for merch for 21st Amendment. I was very confused...were they just selling through any remaining inventory?

Apparently the rights to the brewery were sold to Evil Genius and they are bringing back four of the top sellers and some seasonals possibly later.

I am honestly surprised that the story of them being bought and resurrected wasn't bigger news, given all of the think pieces regarding their demise.

You mean I'll get to drink Hell or High Watermelon again??

Doug Vielky said they were purchased by… someone
Evil Genius

The only reason I even vaguely remember this is because Evil Genius makes pretty bad beer and all their beer names are obnoxious nostalgia bait. Nathan and I went there and got flights of every beer they had (for the ticks) and I don’t think we finished one.
