So, like serious judgement question here.

Clearly almost everyone on this here website forum is a drinker.

3 ~2oz pour of 100 proof liquor “after work”. I consider this normal. My neighbors think it’s not possible I don’t need some help. Now I’m a serial drinker and always have been but like no DUIs and I don’t piss in the hamper much anymore. Please fam, tell me I’m just on the above average side of “normal” here and not true like serious degen status. Like I get WHAT I drink is full degen but is the amount also. What you banging of an evening, yo?

I averaged over 3.5 Two Hearted per day in 2023. Most of these were 16oz pours, not 12oz cans or bottles. That does not include all of the other beers I drank. That doesn't include the 100+ cocktails I had. That does not include the bourbon pours or the bottles of wine I split with my wife.

Never once pissed in a hamper.

I might call in hungover to work 2-3 times a year.

I might be a degen, but whatever man.

Yeah to be clear I dont give a single fuck as I am who I am but I was taken aback that 3 or 6 drinks a day was “alarming”. Like I think the schnapps thing makes it appear worse than it is. But just ripping jiggers of schnapps out of the deep freeze shooting the shit with the neighbors in my garage is apparently poor form.

Baseball really messes up my drinking routine…I’m driving so many carpools between 4-10pm, days vary week to week.

I used to drink a Deep Wood can or other double-digit can or 500ml bottle daily if I could. Now on nights I’m home, switched to a mix of neat bourbon (unmeasured) or simple cocktails (doubles, so 3oz of the base, typically).

I dunno - it all sounds roughly in the same range to me. I don’t know anything about your neighbors, but maybe it’s the daily/weeknight part, I know that’s “a thing” for some people, even if it was only one.

Do you think they'd feel the same way if you drank 2-3 16oz IPAs a day? Seems like it could just be the schnapps stigma (if that's a thing).

I'd guess those of us here that haven't quit drinking would be considered problem drinkers by virtually any medical professional, and probably most people would consider 2-3 (or more) drinks of any kind daily (or almost daily) to be problematic. Not that I agree, to be clear.

People think that you are an alcoholic if you do shots, but if you sip special whiskey from a special lil glass, you are an aficionado.

If you are putting down 144oz of Hamms in an evening and making comments about someone else's consumption, well, that is what someone might call projecting.

If I personally am going to judge you for being a degen, I doubt it would be for the Schnapps. Heh heh heh.

No but really, seems fine to me. I bet if you said you were having the same amount of eau de vie, it would sit differently. Verbiage and stigma and all from stupid people (as others said). No different than a couple glasses of wine, a few beers (not 12, mind you!), etc. If I go to my bar after work, I'll have 3-4 cocktails of varying degrees. If I'm home, usually a beer or two, or maybe a pour of rye. I don't drink a ton at home.

Dude comes into the shop regularly and gets six tequila minis in one swoop. Sometimes he returns. I've suggested he could save money by purchasing an entire bottle for the same price. He won't do it because he knows damn well he'll finish the entire liter in one night. Now that's a problem.
