Official Baseball Thread

mlbtraderumors has Montgomery at 6/$150. they had Nola at the same exact numbers. probably wouldn't take 7 for Montgomery, Nola has the better track record. but haven't seen the Braves give out huge numbers to pitchers that I can recall. think they'd go 6 on Montgomery or go after Gray?

edit: MLBTR has Gray at 4/$90. that seems more the Braves style?
Everything about Gray is more their style. They love players from "Braves country" and Gray went to Vandy, is from Tennessee. If they were going to go 6-7 years for a starter, it was going to be Nola. I don't think they'd be willing to provide anywhere near the same level of commitment to Monty.

I could of course be wrong. They just gave Reynaldo Lopez 3/30 to be a swing man, I guess? That's what the beat writers are saying. I say this of course with the caveat that I wouldn't trust any of the beat writers for the Atlanta Professional Baseball Club any further than I could throw them.

the only thing i'll add to the Nola vs Montgomery discuss is that despite being the same age, Monty has pitched about half as many innings as Nola. Also, Monty seems to be peaking over the last couple of years. How Cashman traded him for an injured, injury-prone, outfielder and still has a job, i'll never understand.
Cashman has done several things that would have gotten your average GM fired.

Here’s my recent list.
Trading for Josh Donaldson and Kiner-Falefa and then telling everyone how great of a fielder IKF is even though he was only good at 3rd and not SS, the position he was supposed to shore up (cough 86 errors in the playoffs in ‘22 cough).
Keeping Josh Donaldson on the roster going into 2023.
Having Joey Gallo on the roster going into 2022.
Having Aaron Hicks on the roster going into 2023.
Signing Rodon to a 6yr contract with his injury history.
probably others from the past 2 seasons.

Not going after Bryce Harper. Thank goodness.

I am hoping, and would be surprised if it doesn't happen, the Rangers resign Montgomery; of course along with a few others...
It makes a lot of sense for Monty to go back to the Rangers, but there are a lot of pitching needy teams and not that many great options to go around. Someone who didn't just win a title might be a little more desperate and thus more ripe to pay too much.

He's just a super old school, hard ass baseball type. Interesting to see how that will work with Machado and Tatis specifically.

Shildt also didn't play nice with Mozeliak in StL when he refused to do the whole puppet act, so that will be interesting with Preller as well.

Mariners trade Geno Suarez to Arizona for a middling reliever and a backup catcher.

Fuck you, Jerry.

Ms are looking to move to a more "high contact" offensive approach per what I read. Small ball, how fun!
Yeah, we've been hearing that up here and I'm still not buying it. Jerry Dipoto loves coming off as the smartest guy in the room with very little to ever show for it, and the ownership group isn't concerned with getting any further than making the playoffs every couple decades.

Cheap fucks are just gonna cheap fuck out. They can prove me wrong any time, but I'm not holding my breath.
