US - South North Carolina Particulars

Very relavent to my interests. Caaam lambicdregs kbuzz and I forget who else is here...

Some thoughts recently:
  1. Lots of new pilsner/lager has hit the area and the quality has never been better
  2. Not enough pale ales made locally
  3. Casita needs to cut out this triple IPA/lactose bullshit and make some basic ass stuff
  4. IPAs at Lynwood are still too bitter
  5. This state desperately needs real happy hours
  6. Resident Culture is the best brewery in Charlotte
  7. Burial's expansion is a godsend...fuck that old tiny space
  8. We have too much haze
  9. Bhavana is too expensive to drink at but the cans are great
  10. Barrel Culture still sucks
  11. Funguys was one of the worst breweries i've ever been to
  12. It's too hard to find fresh Firestone Pivo locally
  13. you're avatar is driving me nuts ASUBeer
  14. Ancillary Fermentation is way overhyped
  15. Detroit style pizza on Monday's at Trophy is a must do
  16. New Anthem has been putting out some very nice stuff lately
  17. Incendiary came out the gate strong with some cans...need to make it out there
  18. Too many children at Durham breweries
  19. Tasty Beverage is still the best bottle shop/bar
  20. Beer and Loathing(at Whiskey Kitchen) is the best beer cocktail I've had
  21. I am done with Fonta Flora with the exception of Hop Beard
  22. Recent Burial stouts have been pretty decent, but certainly not worth waiting in line for
  23. Northern Spy in Durham is a must hit for cider people

1. I assume you exclusively mean Foam Party and whatever that New Anthem jawn is called. And SoGo
12. See also, everywhere in the US. Drink more SoGo
15. Still need to tick
21. You're missing out on Tiny Bubbles. New batch is good. I don't have a lot of their stuff anymore though, it's gotten too far on the bad side of hit-or-miss

Never been happier to not be wrapped up in Triangle beer stuff - still haven't been to the Burial closet, Lynwood, Funguys, most Durham brewery-daycares, haven't been to Barrel Culture in more than a year, haven't had any Ancillary since the second release. Only one I want to go to more is Bhavana (mostly for food and cocktails). Just drink more Hopfly; good people + good beer + not ungood fans is a rarer and rarer combo these days.

Anyone going to Lagerfest at Resident Culture or Session Fest at Zillicoah?

This area lacks barleywines

^ this, first and foremost

Will second that Resident Culture is best brewery in CLT. High Branch in second (technically Concord)...and Amor Artis is an up and comer (technically Fort Mill). Wooden Robot is right there too...their last batch of cans were on point.

Also a big fan of New Anthem from what I've had over the past couple years.

I actually had a really nice hoppy beer from Fonta Flora not too long ago. Hulihee? Reminded me of a Fat Heads hoppy beer, to which my Pittsburgh-based palate has found no real comparison down here.

Need to make my way up to the Triangle more often. Once college football and basketball roll back around, I'll have more to say about that area.

I think so. I was up in Asheville and eating lunch at Copper Crown. They had a rotating Fonta Flora tap and the waitress said it was a Pilsner, so I went with it. It looks like Nebo is their only current Pilsner so that must have been it.

Fixed. It started creeping me out too.

Resident Culture’s Pilsner (Pils Don’t Pay Bills) is really, really good. It’s a German style Pilsner and they have cans and draft.

I had a Fonta Flora Pilsner this weekend that immediately jumped up to my #1 Pilsner in the state.
