Great Music of DDT: Songs about Murder

Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, an African American boxer was convicted of killing three white people in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1966.

And I can't think of anyone that sung more songs about murder than Johnny Cash.

Delia Green was a 14-year-old African American murder victim who has been identified as the likely inspiration for several well-known traditional American songs, usually known by the titles "Delia" or "Delia's Gone".

Numerous artists recorded this song (including Dylan). Cash recorded it in 1962 and then again in 1994 on the Rick Rubin produced American Recordings LP.

The lyrics are violent even for Cash:

First time I shot her
I shot her in the side
Hard to watch her suffer
But with the second shot she died
Delia's gone, one more round
Delia's gone
