Fishing Thread

Hahahah. Yes!

One of my kiddos has raged all week we didn’t fish Sunday cause of the rain.

Saturday morning we are putting all the chores on hold and going fishing. Gonna grab breakfast and hit the lake in our neighborhood. Hopefully they can get a bunch of bream. I’m gonna try to get some catfish I guess and gag if I catch one.

Fished a small alpine lake on Friday. Water was crystal clear and I could often see these little brookies come up and hit my fly.

So fun, I could've caught dozens of these guys if I wanted to.

I spent the past 2 weeks in The Adirondacks with my father, doing lots of fishing and celebrating his 70th birthday. Lots of oppressive heat to contend with, so the fishing was challenging. A lot of early mornings & putting in the work to land some nice trout as well as a bunch of shiners.

The last leg of the trip, we spent time on the St. Regis River looking for the waterfall that was the background for a photo of my great grandfather fishing the same spot.

His photo appeared in a 1908 issue of Field & Stream magazine. It accompanied an article he wrote about camping in the woods in the Winter. We were at a primitive campsite, but we did it in July.

Sad to say, my camping trip only afforded me a couple of hours of fishing this year. Caught a few small smallies, nothing worth a picture. The only picture-worthy fish I hooked into (I thought I was snagged at first, which is always a good sign when it swims sideways) textbook-jumped 3 feet out of the water, shook its head, and was gone.

Have been on the hunt for a used fishing kayak for a while. Finally nabbed this Feelfree Lure 13.5 for basically half price on Craigslist. Rigged a little stadium seat to the front hatch/cooler so I can bring one of the kiddos with me if they want to come. Been out on Lake Wylie (NC/SC border near where I live) a few times and this thing is incredibly stable. Will be looking to add a trolling motor just to be able to quickly navigate between spots and make the most of my time.

Hope to start posting some catches soon... but even if not, Id probably be good with just the views...

That looks awesome! I have thought about that many times.

Nice yak! They all sure do have some awesome builds, and stable platforms now. I would love to get me one to fish in the flats or take out into the bay.. the YouTube videos of people outfitting them have some sweet ideas and hacks to make them efficient and fun.
