A thread to discuss commercials you remember well enough to stick in your head, for better or (usually) for worse. Rants, raves, things that grind your gears. Favorite commercials of the past. Anything that lives in the spaces between what you really came to watch.

What's the deal with the Geico gecko's schtick turning into "people are obsessed with his celebrity?" Like the one at a restaurant where a waiter is nervous to wait on him and he's standoffish and kinda validates it. Seems to me they think he's a bigger deal than he actually is? Who would be starstruck by an ad spokesman anyway?

That said, the one where the librarian is mad with power ain't bad.

Growing up in Los Angeles Cal Worthington was a staple of local commercials. A local car dealer, his commercials had an extremely catchy jingle that we would sing at school when playing. The commercials would feature cowboy Cal Worthington doing stunts frequently with exotic animals.

I can't find the exact one I remember from when I was a kid but the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop was the commercial that always stuck in my head as a kid.

WHERE'S THE BARGAINS? At the Swap Shop!
FREE CIRCUS? At the Swap Shop! (they really had a circus till the mid 90s)
CLASSIC CARS? At the Swap Shop!

More like...
NEED COCAINE? At the Swap Shop!
NEED A FAKE ROLEX? At the Swap Shop!

Apparently the guy that owned it (who is actually that last dude in the video) died recently and in his Will he stipulated that his kids have to sit on the (now very valuable) land for 20 years so the place has gone even more to shit while they wait for the nest egg to hatch.

That land has to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. It's gigantic and close to downtown.

Aside from the Taco Bell Dog, who we gotta mention here, this commercial for its comically red face man is remembered nearly every time I think of the volcano menu to this day.

Another ad series I remember, but in this case it's just tons of on screen charisma. Can't remember many ad girls who held national consciousness for as long as she did even after these went away.

My favorite commercial of all time, and it's not even a contest, is the Scoop, There It Is! from Geico. Everyone just full commits.

but I agree with Coyote - the gecko sucks and should be run over. Also, the Flo Progressive commercials are very well done. They've added all those side characters who have all had their moments.

The worst commercial I can think of lately is the 2 football players sitting on the bench, eating candy, overdubbed with baby voices. It's so disturbing. Also, all the cartoon bears with shitty toilet paper on their asses. Nobody wants to see that.
