Apparently Alex Cora was offered the job before Mattingly, but turned it down.Rob Thomson out in Philly, Donny Baseball interim manager.
Not surprising, though I don't think it's going to help. Dombro is the problem there.Rob Thomson out in Philly, Donny Baseball interim manager.
Agreed. Firing the manager mid-season is always a stupid knee jerk reaction. Not surprising, though I don't think it's going to help. Dombro is the problem there.
The Mets will scapegoat Mendy soon. That isn't going to help either.Agreed. Firing the manager mid-season is always a stupid knee jerk reaction.
Cincy is 20-11 with a negative run differential. It’s early and baseball is great.I was curious what the Mariners’ run differential was so I checked, discovering only four teams in the American League have a positive RD.
Yankees +47
Rangers +8
Mariners +7
Tigers +6
Seven teams in the NL are in positive territory for comparison.
Atlanta +69
Dodgers +66
Cubs +35
Brewers +26
Pirates +17
Padres +8
Marlins +1

I always enjoy that logic. As if these games count for less in the standings. Obviously it's possible for teams like Philly and NYM to dig out of the holes they have dug, but it's a tall task regardless of what time of the year it is.I know everyone likes to say the start of the season doesn't matter but run differential through the first two months has been a pretty good indicator of team quality and postseason success for the last 10-15 years.

Atlanta has two primary issues - the bullpen is very back end heavy, and both Austin Riley and Mike Yastrzemski being absolute black holes offensively.I mean I get it, it's a long season, a lot can change with health, and maybe a team isn't properly represented by their W/L record yet. But if you're +60 after a month, well...
I'll be keeping my eye on the Braves the next few weeks.
