Layin' Bricks: The LEGO Thread

JFC this topper in Bag 3 was one of the hardest things I’ve ever put together in LEGO. 8 different connectors with 3 different types of connectors connecting the outer shell to the inner shell. I kept getting pieces flying off. Finally got it after about 20 minutes but I was about to rip my hair out, lol.

My wife just picked up most of this set (no minifigs and didnt check all the parts yet) from a thrift store for $6.

I also just bought these off a facebook marketplace ad for $150. I actually knew the owner, bought these from his mom as he died over the summer and she's selling off his 1200 set collection that I had no idea he had. She's keeping the original monorail though.20191209_235848.jpg

Treehouse picked up for the fam to do “together” over the Holidays. Mustang build for myself because why not.

sort of cobbled together a winter village scene from the various ones we have. Maybe 75% of our stuff. Then the obligatory train around the tree. Merry Christmas

next year I really hope to do a lego train around the tree.

Trains around the tree, at least in our household, always seem like a better idea than they turn out to be. We have a Lionel Polar Express train that we've had for three years now. The first year we had just enough track to make it. Last year I got some more and it went all around the tree. Then we had a Christmas party and the damned thing doesn't want to stay on the tracks. So inevitably it is stuck in the back of the tree and I have to crawl under there to get it. Only to have it go off the tracks a minute later. I didn't even put it up this year.

I'll definitely consider putting our Christmas Lego train up next year. Gives us more room to add the new Winter Village set for next year to our mantle.

Pro tip find some of the flexible track that comes with other Lego train sets. Except for the occasional derailment by cat or dog ours makes it round and round way better than the model trains we had prior. Sure they are fancier and “nicer” but were a pain in the ass to keep running for more than a day before you had to fuck with something.

plus you need way more track than the Christmas train includes unless you have like a 2’ tree

I guess I need to buy the Lego motor kit so our train actually moves. I think psychologically I liked the Lego train idea more since in the back of my head I knew ours was manual.

:(

Based on these photos, we now have conformation that LEGO® has subcontracted directly with one of the companies who have copied our designs, which means the “Night Mode” sets, in their current form, are based on and include direct copies of technologies and designs we created. When you scroll up and look again at our original designs, there can be no mistake. True, these are just prototypes, but seeing them inside a LEGO® branded box is a very strong endorsement from a company that usually shies away from making endorsements.

[…]

Where does this leave us, considering today’s announcements? Seeing knock-off designs of your product in a LEGO® branded box is a shocking development from a company that puts such a strong emphasis on fairness that they have named their official company policy on intellectual property and copyright as “Fair Play.”

My god, this set. https://brickset.com/article/49422/lego-ideas-pirates-of-barracuda-bay-revealed!

I always wanted Black Seas Barracuda growing up, but I was just slightly the wrong age (born in ’88, so it was out of production by the time I was interested). My parents got me Skull’s Eye Schooner, which was a fantastic set, but something about that yellow and red color scheme always had me wanting the Barracuda. It’s going to take an absolutely tremendous amount of willpower for me not to buy this $200 modern-meets-nostalgia bomb.
