Real Golf

Was hoping we'd end up with a Henrik-Phil-esque back and forth, but Lowry is running away with this thing (or standing pat with this thing may be a better description).

I'm pretty much happy any time Phil, Bubba and Patrick Reed don't win.

Heck yeah- hope weather stays together. I get to put some huge chunked wedge shots around the greens at East Lake GC before the pros come into town in ~2 weeks for the Tour Championship. Hope they don’t mind the divots!

Haven’t played but maybe 1.5 rounds since coming back from Wilmington so who fucking knows what my swing will be in the morning. Kind of the time of year you got it or your won’t until next spring with some work.

I know I’m no where near anything a pro golfer is as far as skill, but holy actual fuck at the rough.

I don’t think I recall it being this thick or tall. They even use a special machine to stand it up and make your ball settle down under the canopy so you have to gouge it out from 3-4 inches of Bermuda rough.

Greens running 12.5 today, the absolute best bunkers I can recall playing out of as well, unfortunately.

Outside of the occasional work finishing up the grandstands and venue fixtures for the Finale, it was a great walk.

Played okay- shot a 90 with 5.... 3 putts. I hammered the driver well on the back nine, and we played it as far back as well could without getting into the PGA tees they had roped off.

Knew it was a good day when I got issued BKs locker. Also, the best locker room attendant as well- shoes came home cleaner than I showed up with.

Great pics. I always suck at grabbing good pics out there because I put my phone in my bag

Man I had the worst experience this past weekend. Living in NYC, golf pickings are slim. If you tee off any time after 7 AM, expect a 6 hour round. Not only are the public courses incredibly crowded, but they are in rough shape, too. That being said I decided I needed to try a new course outside the city. I'd heard really nice things about Ballyowen and decided to give it a shot (its in northern Jersey). It's a links style course that has been voted #1 public course in Jersey a few times and has great reviews. I successfully made a 7 AM tee time for this past Sunday, but couldn't convince any buddies to make the early trip out there. I left at 4:45, arrived at 6 and hit balls at the range/putting green for a while. Course was absolutely gorgeous, was so excited to try it out. At 6:45 I approached the starter along with a group of other golfers. He tells me that he already sent out my group (3 other random guys) and that he would arrange a ride for me to meet them out on the 3rd hole. They were completely booked for the rest of the day, so it wasn't like I could join the 7:10 group behind me. I questioned why they were sent out early, and he told me that there was a fog delay (which it was foggy). How can a fog delay result in going out early though? Long story short I was not interested in taking a ride out to the 3rd hole to join a couple guys I didn't know, mid round. I told the starter I was just going to get a refund and bounce. I was so disappointed I drove all that way for no reason though. Having a toddler and a wife who works insane hours means I get very limited chances to golf so my Sunday really sucked.

Yeah I usually don’t. This was a pretty carefree round and on occasion I was close enough to my caddy to grab my phone to check some emails for work, and snap a photo or three.

Just got an email from Ballyowen. I sent them a note about my experience there last weekend:
We appreciate you coming out last Sunday and I do apologize for your experience that day. We take great pride in giving our guests the best possible experience.
Unfortunately there seemed to be some confusion with a delay and earlier tee times showing up late. The starter unfortunately sent out the threesome you were paired with without locating you at the range. As I told my staff this was a failure of communication and something that should not occur.
I do appreciate you coming out and sending your feedback as we take all of our guest’s feedback seriously, in ways we can improve. That being said I would like to invite you back to experience Ballyowen in a more positive light and in the way it was meant to be played. Please let me know when I can set-up that tee time for you as I would be more than happy too.

Had such an amazing trip to bethpage black today. Having been there for the pga championship earlier this year it was so cool to finally play the course. The biggest challenge is the fact that you aren’t going to reach most of the par 4s in 2. I was pretty good at leaving myself angles and hit some nice shots with my 60 degree. I already wanna play again but fuck I’m exhausted

Did you play it all the way back? Looks like fun!

At the tips? Nah they really discourage people from playing them without a tour card. Slows up the rounds even more, too. From the whites they still play like 6800 yards.

Yeah, a few years ago I had some guys from the club say they played while visiting family, and they didn’t NOT keep them from the tips, but pretty much said- “show me your GHIN card, and needs to be low low single”.

Which is great cause holy shit is that a problem with slow play when people play tees too far back for their skill.

Yep makes sense. I mean from the whites it walks the line from being challenging/not fun.

Yeah, and for courses you don’t get to often or ever again you want it to be fun...

I’ve got a playing partner who loves to play as far back as he can get away with, especially if playing with another acquaintance who’s a MUCH longer hitter.

I’m like dude... I don’t wanna be hitting 4-5-6 irons into par 4s that I’m crushing with a driver or having to shape a shot in with a 3 wood off the tee. That shit ain’t fun every other hole.

I also don’t wanna hear ya cry for 3 hours about how your swinging it like crap hitting mid irons all day and not getting a single wedge in.

Wasn't Justin Thomas on the bubble 3 weeks ago? So after a whole disappointing season he had 2 good weeks and now has a 10 stroke cushion to win with Fedex Cup?
Technically, a 2 stroke cushion over Cantlay. Can an Even-par starter overcome 29 other golfers to win it all? Probably not, but the PGA has eliminated the need for math to find out who wins it all. This year, win at East Lake, and you win the FedEx Cup.
