I built mine out of lumber and am hoping they last another year or two because lumber prices still suck.Anyone have any raised bed planters they prefer? I've made my own out of pressure treated lumber at the last house but I was thinking that might be cost prohibitive these days with lumber prices. We have a LOT of gophers so I'd also ideally like something with a base on it. Currently pricing out new water troughs at the feed store but then got some ads served up on Instagram this weekend for a company called Vego Garden online. They look good and are a little cheaper than water troughs but without a base I'll need to add wire netting etc.
They are all cut off by hand, as they just don't want to come off otherwise. Spring loaded fiskars trimmer ftw. This should be the largest harvest of them, but there will be more.Man, you are getting a shit-tonne of those tiny chilis.
Last year I harvested a gallon ziploc plus half a quart ziploc of pequins by hand… these were the tiny ones about the size of a red hot candy. Good lord, man! That is a lot of work. I put on some good tunes and went to it today. It was a bit cathartic. The condiment we are making with the red ones is worth all efforts.Last year I harvested a gallon ziploc plus half a quart ziploc of pequins by hand… these were the tiny ones about the size of a red hot candy. It was done periodically for prob a couple weeks. I’d take a break from work or late in the evening and go out and pick til I couldn’t anymore. Bittersweet too because the freeze Texas had in February smoked the plant… it lived but is still tiny and barely fruiting.Good lord, man! That is a lot of work. I’ve got a purple version that got destroyed in the freeze as well. It’s coming back but will take a few seasons to get back where it was.It was done periodically for prob a couple weeks. I thought that was what I was growing, but you see how that worked out for me. Next year....Those small Thai chiles are one of the few things I grow consistently year to year. I stopped growing the regular variety because picking them takes so long and the seed to fruit ratio is nuts. I started growing the larger ones that are closer in size to tabasco peppers. They taste the same, pick quicker and there is more fruit than seeds.
My friends in Hazel Park call then Tomato Plants
