College Basketball

Very bummed that the season is over. So good to have the tournament back, probably the most fun 3 weeks I've had since the pandemic started. Can't wait to hopefully see some tournament games in person next season.

UCLA seems to be in the top 5 of all the way too early top 25s, but I think that really depends on what Juzang decides to do. Regardless, amped for next season already...now to pass the time until CFB season 🥱

listening to Shaka Smart on the radio. really sinks in how much these guys are by and large used car salesmen.

everything he says has a gloss of being real and genuine and he presents it confidently as if he really believes what he's saying. it's a skill, no doubt.

Hahaha whichever Baylor assistant made that up should get a raise.

Athletes can be so weird sometimes.

"Hey guys, big Championship game tonight. Most important game in your young careers. Everyone up for it?"

*Nah, coach, I'm not really feeling it*

"They ordered champagne."

UCLA's starting center, Jalen Hill (who had been out of action for a couple of months pre-tournament) announced his retirement today due to anxiety/depression. He was one of the guys caught up in the shoplifting thing in China a few years back, but he has really come a long way since then (though he says that's when his anxiety problems started). Anyways, it takes a lot of courage to come out publicly like this, and also takes a lot of wisdom to step away from something that is bringing you more stress than joy. Seems like the school and team have been nothing but supportive, which is what you'd hope but not necessarily what you'd expect. Wishing him the best.

Ayo Dosunmu declared for the draft and will hire an agent. Expected.
Giorgi B (also from Illinois) declared for the draft and seems pretty done with college. Unexpected, but being away from family for ~18 months and already having your degree makes this seem...more logical, I guess?

And with Omar Payne transferring from Florida, Georgi might not get minutes again.

Rough end to the season and early off-season for Illinois so far. What's their starting 5 looking like for next year? Also what's the word on Cockburn staying or going?

Curbelo, Austin Hutcherson, Grandison, Coleman Hawkins, Omar Payne?

If Kofi comes back, they could win the Big Ten. His best friend Georgi leaving probably doesn't help.

Seems like Kofi could perhaps use another year to work on his mid-range jumper. Could work his way into the first round if he added that to his game and could score facing the basket. Rare to find anybody with that build.

He can't shoot and he can't pass. No idea what he'll do in the NBA next season. Probably looking at a full season in the G-league anyways.
