Rollerblading

Maybe I'll be the only one in here...

Started with ice hockey as a kid, 90s wave of fitness skating and street hockey, saw the xgames on TV in 1995 and said to myself, "I want to do that!" So here I am a 35 year old still rollerblading a few times a week, mainly to do jumps and grinds at skateparks and elsewhere.

Anyone here "used to blade" or still put em on for fitness, hockey, or other?

Oh god was that a long time ago, I felt I was getting too good at rollerblading so I switched to skateboarding.

Have you ever heard the joke about what the hardest part about roller blading is?
ooh, I love homophobic jokes. please tell us.

I used to blade a lot. Minnesota was a hotbed for it, Rollerblade had their headquarters here and apparently a massive skate park that I never got to go to. I skated with some crazy talented guys (Chris Farmer and Jeph Howard though they wouldn't remember me lol) and had fun, but kept getting hurt and eventually stopped because it was less and less fun. I keep getting tempted to give it a try again. but falling sucks.

I'm also 35 and still rollerblading. Started with street hockey when i was little then got into the aggressive stuff in my mid teens. Don't hit the park anymore really but i skate at least 2 days a week.

Got a new pair of Twister Edge Xs this year that i love but i'm still breaking in. Had a pair of Twister 80s that were great but they got stolen when my car got broken into. Also have a pair 15ish year old Swindlers that i use on the rare occasion i make to the park. They're beaten to all hell tho. ANNND i've got a pair of OG all black Lightnings on display in my living room, found em for 15 bucks on ebay, MABYE worn twice, sweetest deal ever.

Wanna do the Berlin marathon someday.

Played about 6 years of rec league roller hockey from late elementary school - early high school. Probably my favorite sport that I ever played (and probably what I was best at). Have thought a few times over the last few years about suiting back up, but haven't done it yet.

Never heard it (eye roll)

I know both of them and a number of other MN guys. It's such a small scene now that many of us know each other.

Falling definitely sucks, but skating is the best, even recreationally or low intensity skatepark stuff. Get a new pair :)

I love my white TRS's, if I ever skate again, I am good with them, put new frames/wheels on it right before I stopped.

As a skateboarder in my days I can honestly say I thought park rollerblading died.

Interesting to know people still do it. I never had an issue with the guys in our area who did it, we all talked shit but we all hung out so it wasn’t serious.

I skated for years in the 90’s and early 2000’s. This thread is bringing back some memories, I remember geeking out to Arlo Eisenberg and slapping senate stickers all over the place.
I put on my 20+ year old k2’s few years back tried a few grinds and jumps in the neighborhood and everything on the skates pretty much cracked and snapped from dry rot. My friends and I were huge into it, we did some local competitions etc. The half pipe and going big was my jam.

Funny, I searched rollerblading on the other site last year and nothing came up. Glad you started this thread. Been slooowly getting back into it over the last year after over a 15 year layoff. I'm 41 now and haven't skated real street since I was 25 but it's something that you can't quite quit in your mind. I basically try and hit the local parks at dawn before work and before there's any kids there and it's slowly coming back.

I bought a pair of usd aeon 80s so that I can skate the trail near my house with my kids on their bikes and actually get a workout since neither of them ride very fast when I am on my bike with them. I really wanted to grab a pair of 110 triskates, but going from a life of 55 flat to 110s seemed daunting. Plus the aeons have a sweet soul spot so grinds are still doable.

damn i used to blade for years, had a buddy who was super into it helped, and as he upgraded his blades he would give me his hand me downs

in high school i bladed a lot, i remember one of my older brothers would call me up to “go for a ride” our clever code lol, id slap my blades on and he’d swoop me up a block away and we cruise and hot box his truck, the i’d go blading and listen to music for hours, on a tap player of mix tapes no less

the best part about blading tho is how freaking cool we look doing it!

If anyone in the Santa Ana area this weekend wants to see a blading spectacle...

Anyone doing covid boredom related rollerblading? The last few months have seen a boom in sales and newcomers and/or people rediscovering an interest in blades.

My legs and back are super sore from a few sk8 moves I did this weekend and some cycling.
